On August 10, 2017, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) issued a press release on the recently held meeting of the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) between the U.S. and Cambodia. The TIFA was signed by both countries in 2006 and is aimed to boost trade and investment between the two economies.
According to the release discussions included, “the establishment of working groups on labor, intellectual property, services and digital trade, and trade facilitation. They also discussed sanitary and phytosanitary issues and reviewed Cambodia’s implementation the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, as well as its participation in the WTO Information Technology Agreement.”
In 2016, imports to the U.S. from Cambodia were valued at $2.5 billion with U.S. exports to Cambodia valued at $360 million.
