Trade-Restrictive Measures at Historically High Level According to WTO

On July 22, 2019, the World Trade Organization (WTO) released its mid-year report on trade-related developments, which reported the continued historically high level of trade-restrictive measures among WTO members.

According to the press release, the record high coverage of import-restrictive measures is estimated at $339.5 billion, the second highest amount recorded. According to the WTO, members implemented 38 new trade-restrictive measures, including tariff increases, import bans, special safeguards, import taxes, and export duties.
