The European Union (EU) Council Adopts Framework for Sanctions Concerning Turkey

On November 11, 2019, the Council of the European Union issued Council Decision (CFSP) 2019/1894 “concerning restrictive measures in view of Turkey's unauthorised drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.” Under this framework, sanctions may be imposed against individuals and entities responsible for unauthorized drilling activities of hydrocarbons in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The sanctions authorized pursuant to this framework include travel bans to the EU for persons, and the freezing of assets for persons and entities.
