On October 10, 2020, U.S. President Trump signed a bill renewing the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act (CBTPA). The CBTPA provides preferential duty treatment for specific apparel items from the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act (CBERA) beneficiary countries.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) issued a press release on the renewal identifying the program as “a means to promote more open markets, protection of intellectual property rights, and stronger worker rights in beneficiary countries.”

CBTPA is renewed for 10 years and will apply retroactively to the previous expiration date of September 30, 2020.
