President Trump Approves Relief for U.S. Washing Machine and Solar Cell Manufacturers

On January 22, 2018, U.S. President Donald Trump approved safeguard tariffs on imported residential washing machines and solar cells and modules.

The tariff-rate and quotas for imports of large residential washers have the following terms:

First 1.2 million units of imported finished washers

18%

16%

All subsequent imports of finished washers

50%

40%

Tariff on covered parts

40%

Covered parts excluded from tariff

70,000 units

90,000 units

 

The safeguard tariffs for imports of solar cells and modules have the following terms:
