President Trump Announces Tariffs on Mexico to Begin in June

On May 30, 2019, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a tariff of 5% on all goods of Mexico origin beginning on June 10, 2019, and gradually increasing by 5% each month until the tariff reaches 25%.

According to the press release, the tariffs will remain in place until “…Mexico substantially stops the illegal inflow of aliens coming through its territory.”

The tariffs will rise according to the following timeline:

  • June 10, 2019 – 5%;
  • July 1, 2019 – 10%;
  • August 1, 2019 – 15%;
  • September 1, 2019 – 20%;
  • October 1, 2019 – 25%.
