President Directs USTR to Consider 25% Duty for Additional $200 Billion in Section 301 Trade Remedy Action

According to a statement made on August 1, 2018, by the United States Trade Representative (USTR) Robert Lighthizer, the President directed the USTR to consider “…increasing the proposed level of the additional duty from 10 percent to 25 percent.”

The increase would apply to the proposed list of products, of approximately $200 Billion, targeted by the Section 301 trade remedy action initiated on July 10, 2018. The USTR extended the close of the public comment period from the original date of August 30 to the new date of September 6, 2018.  The USTR also extended the due date for requests to appear at the public hearing to August 13 from July 27, 2018.
