On August 23, 2019, U.S. President Trump directed the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to increase the tariffs on approximately $550 billion worth of products of Chinese origin by 5%.

According to the USTR press release, the 25% tariffs will increase to 30% effective October 1, 2019, following a notice and comment period. The 10% tariffs announced earlier this month will be raised to 15% effective “…on the already scheduled dates for tariff increases on these imports.”

The USTR will publish a notice in the Federal Register with additional details.
