OFAC Issues General License to Temporarily Authorize New Debt Transactions with Venezuela

On August 24, 2017 the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) issued General License No. 4, in response to Executive Order “Imposing Additional Sanctions with Respect to the Situation in Venezuela” that President Trump signed on August 24, 2017.  

The General License temporarily authorizes, “financing for, and other dealings in new debt related to the exportation or reexportation, from the United States or by a U.S. person, whenever located, of agricultural commodities, medicine, medical devices, or replacement parts and components for medical devices to Venezuela…”

The General License, which went into effect on August 25, 2017, provides additional information regarding each of the covered items.
