NMFS Updates status of Northern Red Snapper in SIMP

Posted by Timothy Miller on 12/5/23 5:00 PM

On November 29, 2023, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) issued a Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) bulletin that announced it would be preparing to enforce restrictions to “prohibit aggregated harvest reports of Northern Red Snapper under the seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP).

NMFS will enforce these restrictions by limiting the use of the “small-vessel accommodation for Northern Red Snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) when submitting PGA message set data for SIM in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Automated Commercial Environment (ACE).”

The update is expected to be in ACE production no earlier than January 20, 2024. NMFS will also publish an updated implementation guide for these restrictions.
