On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, the Oakland International Container Terminal (OICT) suspended yard and gate operations citing staffing disputes between the port operators and longshoreworkers.
While the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association reached a tentative 5-year agreement in February, according to a release by the San Francisco Chronicle, “the union offered no firm timetable for its members to ratify the contract. Union delegates will meet March 30 to April 3 to review the proposal and then decide whether to recommend workers approve it.”
Today’s shutdown mainly affected staging and gate areas.
Expeditors will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they occur.
