In a Federal Register published on September 25, 2015 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a list of enhancements that will help to guarantee that imported and exported hazardous waste is being moved safely and properly.
The proposal includes consolidating regulations into a set of protective requirements that will be used by all transboundary hazardous waste shipments. “This proposal will provide greater protection to communities and the environment through increased transparency, better data sharing and more efficient compliance monitoring.” Electronic reporting to the EPA will also be mandatory, to help provide better efficiency for compliance monitoring and increased data sharing.
The EPA will accept be accepting comments on the proposed rule until November 24, 2015. To learn more about the changes please see here
