Canadian National Rail Update

Posted by Julia Gogoll on 2/24/15 8:12 AM

On February 22, 2015, leaders from Canadian National (CN) and Unifor continued to negotiate terms of a new contract, but were unable to reach an agreement.  Both parties will meet again today, February 23, 2015, in Ottawa to resume collective bargaining.  In a statement yesterday CN “reiterates that binding arbitration may ultimately be the best way to avoid a lock out of the union’s 4,800 members at 2300 hours local time on February 23”.

If a settlement is not reached by 23h00 on February 23, 2015, CN will deploy its labor contingency plan which will see trained management performing the work of Unifor members.

Expeditors will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they occur. Please contact your local Expeditors representative should you have additional questions.
