Air Cargo Market Update

Posted by Julia Gogoll on 10/24/13 8:04 AM

Over the past few years, the global air cargo market has been difficult to forecast, as growth hinges on myriad factors throughout the international community. However, the recent improvements in the U.S. economy along with Europe exiting their recession, demand for cargo has increased out of Asia into the Americas and European markets. Also, since late August, China has experienced an improvement in manufacturing activity translating to an increase in exports and tonnage.  With seasonal volume increase, highly publicized new product releases, and some ocean to air conversions, Asia’s export market has been very dynamic recently.  These factors are now creating backlogs throughout the key origin and transshipment gateways such as Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and South Korea.

As several Expeditors' airline partners report stronger load factors into the Americas and Europe from Asia, it is suggested, when possible, that advanced bookings be made through your local Expeditors customer service representative.  Additionally, it is recommended that clients with shipments or purchase orders requiring expeditious handling book their orders under an express or our EPC (Expeditors Premium Capacity) service to avoid any disruptions to the supply chain due to the current market conditions.

Expeditors will continue to monitor all critical markets with updates being posted to the website as well as communicated through local district offices.  Should you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to contact your Expeditors' representative.
