Mexico Announces Increased Import Duties for Certain Products

On April 22, 2024, a decree published in the “Diaro Oficial” announced the increase of duties for 544 Harmonized Schedule (HS) tariff codes for products imported into Mexico. The increase in duty rates ranges from 5% to 50%. However, qualifying goods may still apply for preferential duty rates from Free Trade Agreements.

The 544 tariffs cover several different types of goods, including but not limited to steel, aluminum, textiles, clothing, footwear, wood, plastic products, chemical products, paper and cardboard, ceramic products, glass products., electrical equipment, transportation equipment, musical instruments, and furniture.

This decree took effect on April 23, 2024, and will remain in effect for two years.
