ITAR Amended Concerning ITDS Reporting

In a Federal Register Notice (FRN) published on January 3, 2017 the Department of State announced an amendment to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). This amendment implements U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) International Trade Data System (ITDS) or “single window”.

The ITDS system allows for the electronic submission of data that is required for the importation or exportation of cargo. According to the notice, “Traders will only need to create and submit a single set of data for each import or export, thus significantly reducing the paperwork and reporting burden currently experienced by importers and exporters.”

This final rule became effective on December 31, 2016. The ITAR, 22 CFR Parts 120-130, will be updated to show these changes.
