On November 19, 2019, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced a hearing to review continued eligibility for the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) for eight countries in Federal Register Notice 84 FR 63955.
Eligibility is in question for different concerns for the following countries:
- Worker rights: Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan;
- Arbitral award recognition and enforcement: Ecuador;
- Intellectual property rights: Indonesia and South Africa;
- Market and commodity resource access: Indonesia and Thailand.
Additionally, Laos will be under review for potential addition as a GSP beneficiary country.
The hearing is scheduled for January 30, 2020, and the deadline for public comments and requests is January 17, 2020.
