FDA Releases Guidance on Foreign Supplier Verification Program

On January 24, 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a new draft guidance on the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) for importers of food for humans and animals.

The guidance covers various questions importers may have, such as what foods the FSVP applies to and who must comply with the program.

The guidance does not establish legally enforceable responsibilities and only reflects the thinking of FDA on the topic. FDA states that the guidance “should be viewed only as a recommendation, unless specific regulatory or statutory requirements are cited.”
