FDA Releases Food Safety Plan Builder for FSMA Requirements

On August 22, 2017 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a news release regarding the release of a software tool, Food Safety Builder Tool (FSPB) to assist food facility owners and operators comply with the requirements set by the Food Safety Modernization Act’s (FSMA) rule for Preventative Control for Human Food.

The software can be downloaded from the FDA’s website by the trade for a step-by-step guide in the setting up of a food safety plan. Users will be asked multiple questions regarding their business and facility. According to the notice, “Once all the tabs have been completed, the file may be saved or printed, and the firm will have a food safety plan to use in its operations and to provide when the FDA conducts an inspection.”

For additional assistance in using the new software, FDA created an overview video that advises how to complete each tab in the tool.
