On April 11, 2019, the European Council agreed to the extension of the period under Article 50(3) of the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU) to October 31, 2019.
According to the European Council decision, the extension “…shall cease to apply on 31 May 2019 in the event that the United Kingdom has not held elections to the European Parliament in accordance with applicable Union law and has not ratified the Withdrawal Agreement by 22 May 2019.”
Tim Barrow, the UK representative to the EU, has confirmed the UK’s agreement to the EU’s extension in a letter to the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
