On September 16, 2019, the Council of the European Union (EU) amended Council Common Position 2008/944/CFSP on arms export controls to account for developments within the EU and internationally.

Particular mention is made of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), which aims to establish a high level of international standards for the regulation of international trade in conventional arms.

The Council reaffirms its commitment to strengthening export controls for military technology and equipment and promoting convergence in the export field within the context of the Common Foreign and Security Policy.
