On November 13, 2017, the European Union issued new sanctions on Venezuela in Council Regulation (EU) 2017/2063 and Council Decision (CFSP) 2017/2074.

In addition to financial sanctions, the new restrictive measures place an embargo on:

  • Arms and related material;
  • Equipment and financial assistance that might be used for internal repression; and
  • Equipment, technology, or software for use in telecommunications monitoring.

The restrictions came into force on November 14, 2017, and will remain in effect until November 14, 2018 (subject to renewal or amendment).
