E3 Foreign Ministers Warn Iran Over Nuclear Non-Compliance

Posted by Emlyn Arrocha on 8/20/25 5:00 PM

On August 8, 2025, the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, and the UK (E3) issued a joint letter warning that Iran’s nuclear program lacks “assurances as to [its] exclusively peaceful nature” and that Iran has failed to comply with its Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action commitments. The E3 offered a limited extension of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) in exchange for renewed negotiations, but Iran has not responded. If no progress is made by the end of August, the E3 are “prepared to trigger the snapback mechanism” to reinstate UN sanctions.

This could lead to renewed international sanctions and increased scrutiny of Iran’s nuclear activities.
