On February 14, 2018, the Department of State posted a notice in the Federal Register, amending the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) regarding South Sudan.

The amendment adds South Sudan to its regulations pertaining to prohibited imports, exports, and sales with certain countries, and applies a policy of denial on the export of defense articles and defense services to South Sudan, with certain exceptions. In addition, in accordance with ITAR § 129.7, no broker “may engage in or make a proposal to engage in brokering activities subject to the ITAR that involve South Sudan without first obtaining the approval of the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.”
