Costa Rica Modifies Document Requirements for WTO Members

On July 4, 2017 Costa Rica published in La Gaceta Diario Oficial, General Update Resolution number RES-DGA-DN-899-2017 which acknowledges the latest modifications made by the WTO in regards to document requirements for WTO members.

Based on this publication, WTO members shall no longer require the import or export declarations submitted to Customs in original format or copy as an import requirement into Costa Rica. However these requirements will remain for non-WTO exporting members. The resolution also acknowledges that international agreements supersede local laws in the country, subsequently proper modification will be made to the General Customs Law.

This new Resolution will enter into force on September 4, 2017.
