Colombia Increases Sales Tax Tariff in 2017

On December 29, 2016 the Colombian National Customs and Taxes Secretary (DIAN) issued a communication on the specifics of the duty increase established in Law 1819 of 2016 effective January 1, 2017.  

Law 1819 specifies in ARTICLE 468 that the general updated duty rate for Sales Tax is 19%. However, in ARTICLE 468-1 the following items are subject to 5% duty rate for Sales Tax.

The reduced Sales Tax List includes:

  • Coffee
  • Wheat
  • Rice
  • Types of Edible Oil
  • Sugar
  • Gas Conversion Kits and Components for Automotive Use
  • Agriculture Equipment
  • Motors and Generators for Electric Vehicles, Electric Vehicles for passengers, and Electric Motorcycles

The publication also contain the list of goods exempt of this Tax.
