In a notice published on the People’s Republic of China’s Ministry of Finance website on April 9, 2025, the State Council Tariff Commission announced an increased retaliatory tariff rate of 84%.

On April 4, 2025, the Chinese government announced a 34% additional duty on goods imported from the United States. This rate was later raised to 84% in retaliation for President Trump's increase of the reciprocal tariff on goods imported from China. The tariff increase on goods from the United States entering the People’s Republic of China will begin on April 10, 2025.
