Census Proposes Country of Origin Filing Requirement

On December 15, 2021, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau (Census) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) announcing the addition of country of origin as a conditional data element when the “Foreign Origin” indicator is selected in the Automated Export System (AES).

Census is seeking comments on the proposed addition by February 14, 2022.

Census is also modifying the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR) to clarify current export reporting requirements.
