Census Bureau Updates AES Response Code 26C

In a Bulletin published on November 9, 2023, the United States Census Bureau announced it has upgraded the severity of Response Code 26C: State of Origin/USPPI Mismatch from “Informational” to “Compliance Alert”.

Response Code 26C is triggered when The U.S. State of Origin Code and the U.S. Principal Parties in Interest (USPPI) Address State Code do not match on the Electronic Export Information (EEI) in the Automated Export System (AES). Per the bulletin, this update in severity is to increase compliance with the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR) and ensure that the aforementioned data elements align.

The update in severity for Response Message 26C became active in the Automated Export System (AES) on November 14, 2023.
