CBP Issues Guidance on Section 232 Exemption

On November 12, 2020, in Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) #44838240, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued guidance on the exemption of additional duty under Section 232 for certain unwrought aluminum from Canada. The reinstatement of this exemption was announced on October 27, 2020, in Presidential Proclamation 10106. The exemption is retroactive to September 1, 2020.

The additional 10% ad valorem duty applies to goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after August 16, 2020, and before September 1, 2020. Goods entered from September 1, 2020, through October 27, 2020, may be eligible for refunds.
