On July 27, 2021, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) issued a message following the announcement by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) on behalf of the Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) that the Border Services Officers bargaining unit has voted to strike. According to the message, “Ninety percent (90%) of Border Services Officers have been identified as essential, meaning that they will continue to offer essential services if there is a strike.”

CBSA is developing mitigation strategies to ensure continued operations. The strike could begin the first week of August.
