On October 31, 2019, President Donald Trump announced the termination of Cameroon’s eligibility under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). AGOA grants trade preference benefits to the eligible countries. The President cited Cameroon’s noncompliance with AGOA requirements, specifically regarding human rights violations by Cameroonian security forces.
Cameroon will lose eligibility as of January 1, 2020.
