BIS Seeks Public Comments on Connected Vehicles

Posted by Timothy Miller on 3/11/24 5:00 PM

In a press release published on February 29, 2024, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) seeking public comment to potentially develop regulations to “secure and safeguard the Information and Communications Technology and Services (ICTS) supply chain for connected vehicles (CVs).”

CVs have integrated “hardware that enables connectivity within the vehicle and/or external connectivity with devices, networks, applications, and services outside the vehicle” and these technologies that have been developed by foreign entities are being investigated for national security risks. BIS is seeking feedback on how these risks can be mitigated, prohibition measures, and input from the trade on how CVs should be defined.

Comments must be received on or before April 30, 2024.
