On November 22, 2021, in two Federal Register Notices (FRNs), the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) issued requests for comments on the procedures for submitted Section 232 exclusion requests and objections on imports of steel and aluminum. According to the FRNs, the comments are meant to enable BIS to:

  • “Evaluate whether the proposed information collection is necessary for the proper functions of the Department, including whether the information will have practical utility;
  • Evaluate the accuracy of our estimate of the time and cost burden for this proposed collection, including the validity of the methodology and assumptions used;
  • Evaluate ways to enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected; and
  • Minimize the reporting burden on those who are to respond, including the use of automated collection techniques or other forms of information technology.”

Comments are due January 21, 2022.

Details on comment submission can be found in the FRNs here:
