BIS Seeks Comments on Impact of Chemical Weapons Convention Implementation

On December 1, 2021, in a Federal Register Notice (FRN), the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) issued a request for comments on the impact of the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention on commercial activities involving “Schedule 1 chemicals.” According to the FRN, the comments are meant to assist BIS “in its preparation of the annual certification to the Congress on whether the legitimate commercial activities and interests of chemical, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical firms are harmed by such implementation.”

Comments are due January 3, 2022.
