BIS Seeks Comments on Export License Exception Information Collection

On June 15, 2022, in a Federal Register Notice (FRN), the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) issued a request for comments on the reporting and recordkeeping requirements for export licensing exceptions and exclusions. According to the FRN, the comments are to permit BIS to:

  • “Evaluate whether the proposed information collection is necessary for the proper functions of the Department, including whether the information will have practical utility;
  • Evaluate the accuracy of our estimate of the time and cost burden for this proposed collection, including the validity of the methodology and assumptions used;
  • Evaluate ways to enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected; and
  • Minimize the reporting burden on those who are to respond, including the use of automated collection techniques or other forms of information technology.”
