BIS Seeks Comments on Commercial Impact of the Chemical Weapons Convention

On December 1, 2020, in a Federal Register Notice (FRN), the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) published a notice seeking public comment on “the impact that implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention [CWC]…has had on commercial activities involving ‘Schedule 1’ chemicals” in 2020.

BIS is seeking comments to determine “whether the legitimate commercial activities and interests of chemical, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical firms are harmed” by the provisions of the CWC. Comments should include quantitative and qualitative assessments of the impact of the CWC and can be submitted through December 31, 2020.
