BIS Removes 31 Section 232 General Approved Exclusions

On December 9, 2021, in a Federal Register Notice, the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced the removal of twenty-six General Approved Exclusions (GAEs) for the steel Section 232 tariffs and four GAEs for the aluminum Section 232 tariffs. One additional steel GAE will be removed “as a conforming change to a recent U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) decision.” The GAEs were originally announced in December 2020 and included 123 exclusions. The removal of these thirty-one GAEs is effective December 27, 2021.
