BIS Announces G7 Joint Guidance Document

On September 24, 2024, the Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) issued a press release announcing the release of a joint guidance document from the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom (collectively, "the G7").

According to the press release, the guidance document is intended to provide information to assist with identifying and responding to various sanctions evasion tactics. The guidance document includes:

  • A list of items that pose a high diversion risk; 
  • Updated "red flag" indicators of potential sanctions or export controls evasion;
  • Best practices for addressing these red flags; and 
  • Resources to "assist with due diligence".
