BIS Allowing Export License Extension Requests

On October 16, 2020, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) issued a notice announcing a streamlined process for exporters to request license extensions on licenses due to expire on or before December 31, 2020. Exporters “who may not have been able to ship orders due to resource constraints during the pandemic” have the opportunity to request an extension for six months to fully utilize their license authorizations.

BIS is creating a central mailbox for extension requests: LicenseExtensionRequest@bis.doc.gov. According to the notice, requests submitted to this mailbox are expected to be actioned within two to three business days.
