The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has released Import Industry Advice Notice 130/2026 on July 31, 2026, which notified importers of changes to Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) alternative clearance pathways for the 2026-27 BMSB risk season.

The updated arrangements apply to the upcoming 2026-27 BMSB season and may impact how eligible goods are managed and cleared when they arrive in Australia.

The following alternative clearance pathways will no longer apply for the 2026-27 BMSB season:

• The BMSB Safeguarding Arrangement Scheme
  • The scheme will be discontinued for the 2026-27 season.
• The BMSB rolled goods policy
  • Post treatment loading requirement: Break bulk goods, including those on open-top, flat rack or modified containers, must be loaded within 120 hours of treatment.
  • If the requirement is not met: Goods that do not meet the relevant BMSB post-treatment requirements must be retreated offshore before arrival in Australia.
  • Arrival consequences: Goods that arrive in Australia without meeting the required treatment, including loading requirements, may be denied discharge and/or directed for export to be treated offshore prior to return.
  • Rolled cargo policy discontinued: The previous policy allowing an additional 48 hours for rolled breakbulk shipments will not apply for the 2026-27 season.
  • Operational reminder: If breakbulk cargo cannot be loaded within 120 hours of treatment, it must be retreated offshore to avoid discharge refusal and re-export.
