Argentina Implements New Import System

On October 10, 2022, in the Official Bulletin, Argentina’s Federal Administration of Public Income and Ministry of Economy published Ruling 5271/2022, replacing the Comprehensive Import Monitoring System (SIMI) with a new system known as the Import System of the Argentine Republic (SIRA). The registration process is similar to the process in the SIRA, except the Central Bank sets the payment terms up to 180 days for importers to pay the suppliers for the imported goods. All importers should use SIRA for consumption imports, and importers must provide all information specified in the SIRA website before arriving in the customs territory. The system reflects the Import license status, and the authorities may reject these requests. The license authorization process can take up to 60 days.

Entry into force was October 11, 2022; however, the new system went live on October 17, 2022.
