On June 23, 2017, U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspections Service (APHIS) issued an information bulletin announcing that General Environmental Services (GES) the port of Boston’s approved fumigation service, will discontinue providing its methyl bromide fumigation services at the port of Boston.

On the current Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) form 529 Emergency Action Notification there are currently two options available to imported cargo that has been determined by Customs and Border Protection Agriculture Specialists to require fumigation services:

  • Shipments may be re-exported
  • Shipments may be destroyed

GES will continue to provide fumigation services at the port of Boston until its supply of methyl bromide has been depleted, or by September 1, 2017.
