On August 17, 2018, the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) amended the Cotton Board Rules and Regulations, increasing the cotton fee assessed on cotton and the cotton content of products imported into the U.S.

The amended assessment is be based on a combination of two calculations:

  1. The weight of the cotton imported—$1 per 226.8 kilograms of cotton.

  2. The value of imported cotton lint or the cotton contained in products—a rate of 5/10ths of 1% of the value of domestically produced cotton.

The amendments result in an increase of $0.000395 per kilogram over the current assessment of $0.011510 per kilogram, with a new rate of $0.011905 per kilogram.

The amended fee will go into effect on October 16, 2018.
