Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Expeditors Podcast, where we look at the logistics and freight forwarding industry through the lens of a global logistics provider. I'm your host Chris Parker, and I am a bit under the weather today, so pardon my nasally voice, but today, we are wrapping up 2023 the same way we've done in the past by shining a little spotlight on the top five articles of Expeditors' Horizon Blog.

I've also grabbed our top three podcast episodes for 2023, so you can go back and check out some of my discussions with some interesting folks at Expeditors. Links are in the show notes, but as a little sneak peek, here's what we've rounded up for you. Up first is the "2023 Global Outlook - A Year of Transitions." This article contained a number of observations from the geopolitical consulting division of Expeditors known as Onyx Strategic Insights. You can download their global outlook, as well as a link to their website.

Next up was "German Maut Changes: When and What to Expect," and this was about the German Maut system, which seeks to tax motorists using Germany's roads to support maintenance and also to encourage use of more sustainable means of transportation.

Then an article about Ground Network Services or GNS in North America. GNS is a ground transportation network covering Canada, the US, and Mexico, and it services over, like, a hundred markets with time-definite services. There's a sweet little video in there too, so I recommend giving that a watch.

The fourth article was "How to Negotiate Carrier Contracts," giving a few pieces of advice regarding your data, your sourcing, and transportation when it comes time for ocean contract negotiations, and this was all put together by our folks in Carrier Allocation. You can find more about them in there as well.

And finally, "Storage Costs and Warehousing Trends" was our fifth most read article of the year, and that spoke to the bullwhip effect that was seen in warehousing as a result of the pandemic, since customers were ordering more stock to overcome shipment delays.

As for podcast episodes, much like our number one article, listeners were most interested in my interview with Fernanda Kroup, who is vice president and head of Onyx Strategic Insights, and I had a lot of fun talking to Fernanda, and I think that her perspective on the world was really fascinating.

Next up was my interview with Cam Smith and Nina Barton, who are both part of our Environmental Sustainability group at Expeditors. And in that interview, we discussed carbon management in transportation, and why tracking and reporting emissions is such a challenge right now.

And then, finally, we come to luxury goods where we were talking about Paris Fashion Week with global account manager, Sophie Duquesnoy and Paris District Manager, Marc Rached. And they got to shed some light on compliance, consumers, sustainability goals, and more, all in the world of high fashion and luxury goods. So that was a another fun conversation.

Alright. So that about wraps it up. I hope you check those out. And do subscribe if you like you've read or heard. If you've got feedback for the podcast, you can email me directly at chris.parker@expeditors.com. I would love to hear from you and your ideas to make this series one that you keep coming back to.

But until the New Year, I wanted to say thank you for all your support. I look forward to bringing you more content in 2024, and just take care, be safe, and happy holidays.
