The International Longshore and Warehouse Union - Canada (ILWU - Canada) issued a strike notice to Global Container Terminals (GCT) Canada effective May 27, 2019.

In a press release issued on May 28, 2019, the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) declared a lockout of all longshore employees covered by the former agreement between ILWU – Canada and BCMEA at 0800 on May 30, 2019. If a negotiated settlement cannot be reached, the impending lockout will apply to all west coast longshore employees at the Ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert except those serving cruise ships or grain operations.
