Shanghai Covid-19 Update: May 16, 2022

As of 10:00am May 16th, Shanghai reported 57,183 positive cases (69 new cases) and 584,979 asymptomatic cases (869 new cases) since March 1st, 2022.

Starting from 12:00am on April 2nd, people leaving Shanghai need to show a negative antigen test result within 24 hours and a negative nucleic acid test within 48 hours.

Shanghai will continue to carry out “nucleic acid + antigen” combination testing. The “3 Risk Areas” will be adjusted according to the test results. Shanghai CDC announced that no new variants with a stronger transmission have been found.

15 districts of 16 districts in Shanghai have achieved social clearance. No new positive infections have been found outside the controlled area for two consecutive days. The epidemic in Shanghai has been effectively controlled, achieving phased results.

Shanghai officials announced the next steps of the prevention and control measures, which are divided into “three stages”:

1st Stage: From now to May 21st, orderly opening of “precautionary areas” to keep a lower level of social activity.
2nd Stage: May 22nd to May 31st, continue to narrow the scope of “Controlled areas” & “Locked-down areas”. Implement normalized prevention and control measures and classification management.
3rd Stage: Jun 1st to mid/late Jun, fully resume normal production and life with normalized prevention and control management.
