Rail congestion in New Zealand: October 23, 2020

Posted by Expeditors on Oct 22, 2020 8:21:57 PM

Currently in the New Zealand Ocean environment, many vessels are omitting Auckland Port and discharging in Tauranga.

An unprecedented demand for Northbound rail has resulted in congestion which is causing an immense number of containers waiting to rail up to Auckland.

The current estimated turnaround times are:

  • Ten to twelve days from date of discharge for general cargo as opposed to the usual two to three days from Tauranga to Auckland.

Expeditors will monitor the on going situation for any further disruptions.
