The United States announced travel restrictions out of certain European countries into the United States beginning on March 13, 2020 that may remain in effect through April 12, 2020. The announced restrictions ban foreign nationals who have traveled within the “Schengen Area” within 14 days of arrival from entering the U.S. The stated objective is to help stem the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a press release on March 11, 2020, clarifying that the restrictions are not a blanket flight ban on travel between the U.S. and all of Europe. The DHS also indicated that it would soon announce further measures to designate specific airports for arriving flights from affected European countries.
The Schengen Area includes Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
