The Pacific Maritime Association (PMA), representing the USWC terminals, and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), representing workers, announced a tentative agreement on a new six-year contract, late Wednesday night.
The agreement is subject to ratification by both parties, and no details were released at this time.
The results of the ILWU (Canada) strike vote on June 9th and 10th indicate that 99.24% of the voters are in favor of a strike action. The contract between the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) and the ILWU covering 7,400 longshore workers expired on March 31st, 2023. According to the negotiation process, the earliest they can legally strike is June 24th.
